Building a Community One Book at a Time!
April 27, 2006. Oakville, Ontario - Poet’s Pulpit Bookstore, established online in 2004, is pleased to announce it has expanded its operations and has opened a bookstore in the heart of Bronte village.
A relatively easy decision for him, Robert Whiteley, the store’s owner, knew not long after he went online that he would someday open a traditional bookstore as well.
“I’ve spent the last couple of years looking for a storefront and I think Bronte is the ideal location. Its literary history runs deep and its physical beauty runs even deeper. It was my intention all along to open a store. I just didn’t know when or where.
I enjoy being online, but it’s cold, impersonal – it’s the anti-thesis of what I think every good bookstore is and should be.
I enjoy interacting with the customers too much: exchanging ideas, listening to them speak, whether it’s about books or something else.
Poetry saved me when I was young and now I want to give back to the community.
Poet’s Pulpit is just not your average used bookstore. I want it to be a venue for artists to showcase their art and writers to sell their books, whether the book is self-published or otherwise.
Having published my own book of poems a couple of years ago I know how difficult it is to get the word out there and I hope my bookstore will enable others to do so as well."
