Get ready for the party of summer 2008 and it’s FREE-no admission for a superb day of Fun in the Sun! The merchants of the Bronte Business Improvement Area and The Town of Oakville invite you to Oakville’s Canada Day Celebration on Tuesday, July 1st. in beautiful Bronte Village (southwest Oakville) on Lake Ontario.
Leave your car at home if possible and take the bus to Bronte. Parking is free there will be restrictions and road closures south of Marine Drive will be in effect for everyone’s safety. Please be patient.
Bring your lawn chairs, hats, sunscreen, kiddies and strollers, and prepare to spend the day with us.
Enjoy a sizzling day of summer sun, samplings of food outdoors from participating Bronte restaurants at old fashioned prices $2. and $4. per serving, and our Beer’n’ Burger garden in the park, serviced by our friends and sponsors, the Kinsmen Club of Oakville.
For a small donation to good works, early birds can kick off the day at 8am. with the annual Oakville Trafalgar Lions Club pancake breakfast on Bronte Rd.
Visit our vendor’s bazaar and artist’s row, featuring the works of noted Bronte artists and photographers such as Paul Sandilands, Robert Boast, Bob Irvine and Scott Snowball.
Between 11 and 4pm, there are loads of FREE things for kids to do. Meet Ariel the Little Mermaid on the RBC Boardwalk Stage enjoy free birthday cake for the first 100 kids courtesy of Sobeys. Kids should stay and play with Lenny Graf of Treehouse TV and commercial fame, followed by Sir Jerry. Parents who have overdosed on Elmo and Dora love him for his witty banter, and kids can’t get enough of toe-tapping tunes such as “Bees, Butterflies & Bugs. Joharah, owner of Belly up Belly Dance Studio and her three student troupes will perform the art of belly dance for the audience, inviting all ages to participate in this beautiful and energetic form of dance.
Paint the world’s biggest birthday card, courtesy of Signarama, build wooden sailboats with Home Depot, and don’t miss out on exquisite face-painting art, and balloon antics, sponsored by local resident realtor Sue Coleman, Sales Representative, Remax Aboutown Realty. Bouncy castles and slides will provide endless fun at a nominal sum.
This harbourside Canada Day Festival in Oakville boasts a fantastic talent lineup – all with no admission, a great value for families and people of all ages.
Sixteen acts featuring close to forty talented Canadian performers offering a wildly diverse range of award-winning, quality entertainment, will delight audiences on three different stages: Boardwalk Stage -Bronte Rd, south of Lakeshore, Gazebo Stage, Bronte Waterfront Heritage Park, and Centriller Square stage east of Lakeshore Rd. W.
A featured performer is Ryan Laird, Ontario born, Nashville grown acoustic guitarist, “the boy next door”, coming home to play for Canadian fans. Laird’s influences include Keith Urban, Sting, Stevie Ray Vaughan, James Taylor, and John Mayer.
Finishing off the evening on the Gazebo Stage and taking us up to the fireworks will be our Headliner 2008 Juno-nominated R&B Recording of the Year, God Made Me Funky. (GMMF) is the Funky live ensemble, out of Toronto, comprised of a diverse array of musicians ranging from classically trained jazz artists, to street schooled Hip-Hop & R&B vocalists, all of which share the bond of moving crowds and bringing the Nu-Funk to the next level. Sounds like….Sly meets Parliament Funkadelic meets Jamiroquai meets Afrika Bambatta.

Mayor Rob Burton will urge the thousands gathered to join our headliner in the singing of ‘Oh Canada’ as we lead into the spectacular show of the whole event, the magnificent fireworks show off Bronte Pier…..the Big Bang!.
Hearing the oohs and ahhs of over 35,000 excited people filling the Bronte Pier and park, will signal the end of another perfect Canada Day in Oakville, a must-do ritual of summer. Join us for Oakville’s Canada Day Celebrations & Fireworks
